Light, Mawson

Light is an excellent example of urban infill medium density housing which has been well received by the local community and the building industry alike as the winner of the MBA and HIA Townhouse / Villa Housing category in 2007. AMC explored a range of solutions before arriving at a final design which made the most of the site constraints and opportunities including excellent solar orientation, significant fall across the site, attractive views and a number of significant trees. A central driveway arrangement feeds to discreetly arranged garages which in themselves act as a buffer between the four townhouses which comprise the development. Designed with “empty nesters” in mind each townhouse incorporates three bedrooms, generous living areas and attractive outdoor garden areas. The architectural language incorporates simple pitched and gable roof forms with four striking timber clad towers acting as counterpoint and identifying the entry to the townhouses.
