MULTI - UNIT RESIDENTIAL

Goodwin Lifestyle Village, Monash

Goodwin Aged Care Services (GACS) is Canberra’s largest aged care provider, with three villages currently operating in the ACT. With an ageing population, the Canberra region is experiencing increased demand for aged care services and in response to this, GACS is planning to expand its operations in several areas, one of which is the development of Stage 2 of its Monash village. The site is approximately 7.9ha and boasts wonderful views to the Brindabella Ranges to the south west with great potential to capitalise on northern solar access. AMC Projects, in association with Prescott Architects, were appointed as the successful architect through a national design competition for the new retirement village.

The development includes a 112 bed residential aged care facility, a village lifestyle centre as the hub of the development and 150 independent living units based on 8 different floor plans. The design concept creates strong linkages between the existing and the new village. A main north – south circulation spine is a key organizing element in the masterplan and acts as the main link across the new development and to off-site pedestrian networks. The architectural character of the development is to be “of its time” ensuring the development is attractive to future “baby boomer” residents while sitting comfortably into the surrounding Tuggeranong context. High quality landscaping is proposed both for individual residences and for common areas.
