New Residence, Forrest

This simple elegant new dwelling on Tasmania Circle sits in an area of heritage significance and yet was supported by the ACT Heritage Unit as a testimony to the design concept. The dwelling is made up of a two storey bedroom wing and a single storey living area wing linked by a breezeway. The steep sloping site made substantial basement and living areas possible without impacting on the bulk or scale of the dwelling from the street. The building uses a modern, almost commercial palette of materials including metal cladding, expressed steel and substantial commercial glazing. The central staircase is a focal point throughout the residence while bringing northern sunshine into the heart of the dwelling. Extensive terrace areas to the rear provide for commanding views over a tennis court and Canberra City.
