DETACHED RESIDENTIAL
Holiday Residence, Congo
Overlooking Congo Beach on a substantial 4,100m² block this holiday residence is a sophisticated response to the clients brief. The design concept brings together aspirations for maximising views, responding to climatic conditions and achieving an exciting architectural form. The house is first experienced on the long drive from the entry gate to the high point of the site where the house sits. The house finds its expression through a solid two storey bedroom wing clad in ironbark boards juxtaposed against a single storey pavilion wing with soaring skillion roof accommodating the living areas. The main living areas are completely open planned with internal spaces finding their definition around a 3-sided stone fireplace. This area links to an extensive deck which reiterates the raking roof and includes a BBQ area which acts as an extension of the kitchen. Most bedrooms are located to the upper floor with a retractable ladder allowing access to the highest point of the roof to watch the surf or migrating whales. The dwelling incorporates a simple but sophisticated palette of materials including timber, stone, corrugated iron and polished concrete.
